Battement Tendu
(Other side to the barre from Fifth Position) Stretching of the leg and foot away from the body with toes remaining on the surface of the floor.
4 x battement tendu devant, full degage with arm and close.
4 x battement tendu derriere, full degage away from the barre, open side close to the Fifth Position and passé for changing leg to the back.
For this battement tendu exercise we are primarily working through the feet...
on the other side of the barre. .
There is a transfer of weight, so each time we must check the supporting leg...
Working the ends of the toes through to the center... Push
through to the floor and work the muscles into the feet, retaining
the turnout from the top of the leg.
Keep the upper body strong andcontrolled...
Heel leads toe back
devante.
This is a balance at the end.
Also check supporting leg in the transfer of weight...
Strong through the arms and the upper back,
and finish.

• Tendu - means to stretch. Battement Tendu -
is the stretching of the leg and foot away from the body with toes
remaining on the surface of the floor. Plié - means bending of the knees. Demi-plié - is half bending of the
knees. Devant - to the front.
Derriere - to the back.
Passe - passed.
Relevé - raised up
or to rise.
